Flat Tire Change

Houston freeways chew up tires. Construction debris on I-10 near the Energy Corridor, metal scraps on the Ship Channel Bridge, potholes on I-45 south of downtown — flat tires are a daily occurrence. If you're on the shoulder with a flat and a spare in the trunk, Boutte's Roadside Service will come swap it so you can drive to a tire shop.

The technician brings a hydraulic jack, impact wrench, and wheel chocks. The swap takes 10–20 minutes depending on the vehicle and whether the spare is accessible. If your spare is a donut (temporary spare), you can drive on it to get home or to a shop, but it's rated for 50 miles at 50 mph max. Full-size spares let you drive normally until you get the flat repaired or replaced.

If you don't have a spare — common on newer vehicles that come with fix-a-flat kits instead — we can tow you to a tire shop or try to plug the tire on-site if the puncture is in the tread and not the sidewall. Sidewall damage means the tire is done and needs replacement. If the flat happened because the tire is bald or dry-rotted, we'll point that out.

Freeway calls are the most dangerous. If you're on I-10, I-45, or the Loop during rush hour, stay in the vehicle with your seatbelt on until the technician arrives and sets up cones or flares. TxDOT's incident management teams sometimes assist on high-traffic corridors, but they don't change tires — they just provide traffic control until we get there.
